Schwere Panzerspähwagen (2cm) (Sd Kfz 234/1)

Model by Glenn Bartolotti

The Sd. Kfz. 234 series of eight-wheeled armored cars replaced the older Sd. Kfz. 231, 232, and 233 eight-wheeled armored cars beginning in 1943. These vehicles were primarily designed for reconnaissance roles, and armament varied from model to model. The Sd. Kfz. 234/1 was amred with the 2cm KwK38 L/55. It shared this armament with Sd. Kfz. 222 four-wheeled armored car, but the open- topped turret on the Sd. Kfz. 234/1 was a simplified irregular hexagon. Only a total of 200 of these vehicles were constructed.

The Sd. Kfz. 234/1 saw action in the Panzer Aufkläungs battaions of the Panzer divisions and the Panzergrenadier divisions. These units fought on both fronts during the desperate campaigns from July 1944 until the end of the war.
