Variants of the Panzerkampfwagen 38(t)

Including the Panzerkampfwagen 35(t)

With the annexation of Czechoslovakia, the Germans "inherited" a long-standing tank production tradition in the form of the Skoda firm. As indiginous German tank production numbers had been low, the aquisition of several Czech-built LT 38 and LT 35 tanks provided a numerical boost in tanks superior to the German Panzer I and II. The Panzer 38(t), as it came to be known in German service, was mounted with an excellent 3.7cm anti-tank gun. It served with distinction in the campaign against France and the Low Countries. When production of the gun-tank version ceased in 1942, the extremely reliable chassis remained in production as the basis for numerous specialty vehicles and tank destroyers.
